Global Omnium

(Energy and the Environment)

Introduction

Global Omnium, founded in the city of Valencia (Spain) in 1890 has more than 130 years of experience and is currently present in 15 Autonomous Communities of Spain, as well as in the USA, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. Currently, it brings together 25 specialized companies, 13 participating firms and 56 TUs in different areas related to water management, engineering and the environment.

The Innovation Department of the wastewater area of Global Omnium, located in the University of Valencia Science Park, is driving the transformation of waste water treatment plants (EDAR) into sustainable bio-factories. Our mission is to turn water treatment into a high-value resource generating process, in line with the European goals of decarbonisation and circular economy.

Through intensive R&D, we develop technological solutions to address water stress and improve the resilience of treatment processes. We focus on energy recovery, obtaining new products from sludge and ensuring water reuse that is completely safe for the environment and public health.

Technical Specifications

Technological partner

Companies and institutions looking for in Global Omnium a demonstrator or cooperator in the development of technologies and processes to be implemented in EDAR. These processes can be validated and developed on a laboratory scale by treating real currents, or in an operational environment in the SHC managed by the company in different autonomous communities. The aim is to advance solutions mainly related to the following challenges:

  • Improvement in treatment processes at EDAR.
  • Improving the resilience of treatment processes in WWTP.
  • Energy and resource optimization.
  • Reduction of the environmental impact of sewage treatment and waste.
  • Promotion of the circular economy and synergies with strategic sectors.
  • Water stress.

Business model

Development of R & D projects.

Benefits of Technology

Innovative aspects

  • Recovery and generation of water, sludge and biogas resources.
  • Implementation of solutions based on nature.
  • Safe reuse of water and removal of emerging pollutants, microplastics and pathogens.
  • Digestion - co-digestion of sludge and waste.
  • Sanitation and agricultural sludge recovery.
  • Purification, enrichment and recovery of biogas.
  • Simulation and odour management.

Competitive advantages

Optimization of energy and resources of the WWTP by reducing its operating costs and extending its current value chain.

Technology Applications

The technologies and processes developed can be applied in different WWTP process units, and/or replicated in other industrial sectors.
